MAMA MOON YONI STEAM GUIDE
Why should you steam?
Yoni steaming is an act of self-care and a way to connect to and support the womb space and root chakra.
Physically it nourishes the tissue, warms the uterus, improves circulation, can help restore PH balance, tone the tissue, support cramps/painful periods, regulate the menstrual cycle, help increase fertility, heal/restore after childbirth, increase libido, increase moisture and decrease sensitivity in menopause.
Energetically it can open and align the root chakra, release and heal stored or stuck emotions or trauma, improve sense of groundedness and increase creativity and life force energy flow (prana/chi).
When should you steam?
- For fertility – a short daily steam pre-ovulation is helpful – before there is a chance you could be pregnant.
- For postpartum vaginal birth – steam as often as once a day for 30 days after bleeding has stopped.
- For postpartum cesarean birth – begin steaming 6 weeks postpartum as often as once a day for 30 days.
- On or after your due date – a warm herbal steam on or after your pregnancy due date can help soften the tissue and prepare the birth canal for the big day.
- For menopause – steam as needed to restore moisture, tone tissue and aid in blood flow.
- For cramps/painful periods – steam daily the week leading up to your cycle.
- For regular womb care – steam once a month for honoring, balance and renewal.
When should you NOT steam?
- Never steam while currently bleeding fresh red blood.
- Do not steam if you are or might be pregnant unless you're on or after your due date as mentioned above.

10 MIN YONI STEAM SET-UP
- Pour 1-2 liters of water into your stainless steel, enamel, glass or cast-iron pot with lid (do not use non-stick) it’s best to have a dedicated steam pot if possible – if not possible, make sure to thoroughly clean your pot (nobody wants essence of last nights dinner steaming in their vag!).
- Place your steam pot on your cook-top/stove.
- Add 3-4Tbsp of loose herbs directly to water or place in a muslin tea bag/tea infuser and add to the steam pot.
- Put the steam pot lid on.
- Turn the heat of your cook-top/stove to medium and let the herbs cook for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes the herbs will be ready.
- Turn off the heat on your cook-top/stove.
- If you are using a tea bag/infuser, remove the herbs with a slotted spoon. You can put the bag/infuser on a dish, cover and put it in the fridge for use the next day. Don’t use the same herbs more than two days in a row.
- Put the steam pot on a potholder between two chairs and remove the lid, or put the pot into a yoni steam box or pour yoni steam water directly into your steam seat
- Test the steam with your hand. If it's too hot, let it cool for a minute. There is no benefit to it being too hot - you are here to nurture not burn your yoni! The steam should be at a gentle and comfortable temperature.
- Your steam session is ready!
- Remove your bottoms and take a comfy wide legged seat and drape your lower half in a blanket.
- Follow any/all of the steam rituals below if they call to you.
If you are steaming for 10 minutes please stand up and stop steaming after 10 minutes is up.
30 MIN YONI STEAM SET-UP (FOR BODIES WITHOUT SENSITIVITIES & CYCLES 28 DAYS OR LONGER)
- Please choose the 30 Minute Steam only after determining that you do NOT have any of the sensitivities listed above that indicate you are better suited for a 10 Minute Steam.
- For the 30 min steam, follow all the instruction above but stay seated for 30 minutes. After a total of 30 minutes of steaming please stand up and stop steaming.
- For the 30 min steam – if available, the steam pot can be placed on a hot plate set to warm or the liquid can go in a slow cooker set to warm. Place the hot plate or slow cooker under your chairs or in the steam box if there is a hole cut for the cord to keep the steam going strong for the full 30 minutes.
A note to those prone to shorter cycles: If you are prone to shorter cycles, 27 days and less, but through steaming you achieve a consistent 28-day cycle, stick with the 10 min steam. One who is prone to shorter cycles should not "advance" to the 30 min yoni steam session.
STEAM RITUALS
Yoni Steaming Meditation & Ritual – while every steam doesn't need to be a full ritual - you are the magic in your magic – so the more intention you put into it, the more impactful the experience will be for your body, mind and heart.
Preparation (Setting the Space)
- Cleanse the area – Smudge the space with ethically sourced palo santo, sage, or incense. Open a window to allow stagnant energy to leave.
- Prepare your herbs as mentioned above.
- Set an intention – Hold your hands over the herbs and speak or think your intention (e.g., "I release what no longer serves me" or "I invite deep healing and love").
The Ritual (Steaming & Meditation)
- Take your sacred seat – Sit over the steaming water draped with a blanket to trap the steam.
- Deep breathing – Close your eyes, inhale deeply through your nose, and exhale through your mouth. Do this for at least 3-5 breaths.
- Body scan & relaxation – Starting from the crown of your head, move down, relaxing each part of your body.
- Womb connection meditation – Place your hands over your womb and visualize a warm, golden light filling your womb space. Feel the steam rising, cleansing, and softening your energy.
-
Affirmations or chanting – Speak affirmations like:
- "My womb is sacred, powerful, and whole."
- "I release past pain and welcome new beginnings."
-
"I am in harmony with my divine feminine energy."
You may also hum or chant mantras like "Yam" (heart chakra) or "Vam" (sacral chakra) to deepen the vibrational healing.
- Journaling (optional) – After steaming, write down any emotions, insights, or messages that came through.
Closing the Ritual
- Give gratitude – Thank the herbs, your womb, and the elements for their support.
- Massage & grounding – Rub warm oil (like coconut or castor oil) over your lower belly, hips, and thighs.
- Drink water or herbal tea – Hydrate to support continued detoxification.
- Rest or integrate – Lie down for a few minutes or engage in gentle movement, like swaying, spiraling your hips or stretching.
Why Should You Practice Regular Self Care Rituals?
You can’t make time to take care of yourself – you have to TAKE it! The care and keeping of you and your heart and body are SO important (especially if you are in the postpartum period). Self care rituals like yoni steaming are ancient, sacred and potent. Don’t skip out on yourself – keep the ritual going regularly for the most powerful energetic shifts.
Whether you’re steaming or not, drink lots of water and get lots of rest! You deserve it.
And finally – just in case no one has told you yet today – you are amazing and more than enough. You are divinely held and loved by me and the whole universe. Keep looking up!
